Government College,
Mahendergarh initially came into existence as a private college, then known as
Mahendergarh Degree College with the untiring efforts of Kanod Shiksha Samiti
way back in 1966. The beautiful building of the college was constructed on 44 acres
of land with the donation raised by the people of this region. The mission of
the Managing Committee was to provide undergraduate education to the students
of rural background of South Haryana. However, the Managing Committee found
itself unable to run it properly because of the financial constraints. It did
not want to increase the fee and also pay less to the staff. So they approached
the Govt. of Haryana to take over its control. The Govt. acceded to the request
of the College Managing Committee and thereafter its nomenclature stood changed
to Government College, Mahendergarh on 14th July, 1971.
